I have some older blocks that I have never used. I believe they are from the CEREC 2 days. They have a round metal button on the top of the block and the bottom which inserts into the milling chamber is white plastic. Can these be used in the CEREC 3D milling unit? If so, what option do I select on my acquistion unit? It would be a waste of these blocks if they couldn't be used; I have about 30 of them! Thanks in advance!

these are the old ivoclar top touch blocks. The are essentially procad v1 blocks. The would still mill on older version on cerec 3d. I think they might have even been a milling option in 2.8, but I believe they and no longer listed in versions 3.xx If you wanted to use the, they would have to be done on and older version of the sw.

The problem is that I can't even lock it in place on my classic milling chamber; perhaps if I could do that, I would be able to mill them out. Any suggestions?

Hi tooth slooth, I know some people have tried differnet things but the best thing I know if you want to save and use those blocks without too much trouble .
place in glazing oven for a short period 5 mins at 400c, do the same with good metal stubs that fit mill . The stub will fall off the block (try temp/time in oven with used block ), sand blast the metal surface ,disc the ceramic end and etch and bond to metal as normal bonding technique . Works fine .It is only a glue that holds it anyway . No problems Clive

Sorry - forgot to say , centre the metal stub on block as close as possible to original position , cure all around carefully as possible , remember the touch process will work out the subtleties of position .

Regards clive
